Welcome to the website of the West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium. The WCOMC was started in 2005 to create a pool of workers with the skills needed for today’s manufacturing jobs. Manufacturers in West Central Ohio and across the country have openings for jobs that require special skills in math, computers, interpersonal communication and critical thinking. Good-paying jobs! However, these manufacturers have consistently reported that it has become very difficult to find people with levels of these skills needed for their businesses.

As workers from the Baby Boom generation retire, demand for these jobs will increase, creating tremendous opportunities for those pursuing a career in manufacturing. Today’s manufacturing jobs are challenging, highly skilled and offer the wages and benefits for a good career.

By completing the stages of our Manufacturing Pathways, you increase your chances of employment with our consortium members, located across 10 counties of West Central Ohio.

The “Basic” pathway is a 40-hour class that teaches fundamental skills and knowledge in manufacturing, math and computers. It provides tips on producing a resumé, setting up and conducting yourself during a job interview. Persons completing the “Basic” pathway class are guaranteed an interview with a Consortium manufacturer.

The “Intermediate” pathway includes a set of six “core” classes and three technical classes from Rhodes State College that can be completed in three quarters. The “Advanced” pathway is an Associate’s Degree from Rhodes State College.

The “Basic” pathway is not a pre-requisite for “Intermediate” pathways classes, nor is the “Intermediate” pathway required before pursuing the “Advanced” pathway. Completion of any of the steps of the pathway increases your chances of employment with a consortium manufacturer.

As this program continues to grow, it will become a major asset for this area’s economic development, because manufacturers will know that this region has a population of workers with the skills needed for today’s manufacturing jobs. This plays a major role in companies’ decisions on where to locate new manufacturing facilities.

This website has information on the Pathways program and how you can get started on a career in manufacturing. It also contains information on the manufacturers who make up the WCOMC.

Please take the time to review the information on this website and learn more about this program and the people and companies that make up the WCOMC.
